ABOUT ME
ABOUT ME
Dr. Helma Mair has been working as a therapist since 1997. She has trained in several therapeutic modalities and holds a Master’s degree in Somatic Psychology from Santa Barbara Graduate Institute and a PhD in Somatic Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology.
In her doctoral dissertation, Helma explored the experience of safety in psychotherapy from the client’s perspective and identified key elements that contribute to this central aspect of the therapeutic encounter.
She has contributed a chapter on the importance of the body in the experience of safety in The Routledge International Handbook of Embodied Perspectives in Psychotherapy (2019) and published two articles in peer-reviewed journals that explore the experience of attachment safety in psychotherapy (see Counselling and Psychotherapy Research, 2020) and the experience of unsafety when traumatic memories from the past get activated in the session (see European Journal of Psychotherapy & Counselling, 2021).
To complement her healing work, Helma practices Aikido, a Japanese self-defence system, in which she holds a fifth-degree black belt.
Helma is available for private sessions by appointment.
EXPERIENCE
Helma not only has a background in somatic psychology, she also has extensive training in several different approaches to shock and developmental trauma, including Neuro-Affective Relational Model (NARM®; Larry Heller), Integral Somatic Psychology™ (ISP™; Raja Selvam), Somatic Experiencing® (SE; Peter Levine), Transforming Touch® (Stephen Terrell), and Organic Intelligence® (OI; Steve Hoskinson). Helma has also trained in Integrative Energy Therapy, a gentle and non-invasive form of connecting individuals with their internal experience at an energetic level.
